Stripers!!
I was texted from Bassturds that stripers was around! I was quickly grab my trout set up and went to beach with him. After couple casts later, I was hooked with my first striper of season! Totally embarrassment to admit that this striper was smallest one I ever caught in whole life! it was 22 inch long! Previous record was 25 inch long. Anyway, We was consist losing the hookset! They are biting but just couldn't capitalize it... Bassturds beat me by 5-3. Next time, we wont make any mistakes!
kizel13 - I can see what you mean for most anglers. But unfortunately, it haven't happened to me yet. (knock on wood) They was still have energy on them. My longest battle was probably two minutes on 5 pounds pikerel that I caught last weekend. I can land them really fast when I wanted to. (Aem, Badlarry, and Bassturds are my witness)
Its tough to find a middle ground of a light enough setup for a good fight but heavy enough to bring them in as with any fish the longer the fight the harder it is to return healthy great trip
I've caught smaller!!!!
My smallest is 8"
Bloomagoo - you are right, broken three of them this season. All bass rods. Buzzrod (custom made in texas) and two GSX titanium rod.
Last year, broke five rods. (4 of GSX titanium and one of carrot stix rod.)
Muskie - I recall a thread or two this season where he was broken off
Muskiebigfish - Bingo! you got it right! This rod is what I caught my 16 pounds brown trout on. Image that!
Bloomagoo - I was always using medium-heavy with 10-12 pounds for whole life. Now, I am fully hooked with lightest set up! It is only 4 pound line. I'm tired to landed them all. I just wanted to have a battling that fish has chance to break me off. Of course, I have high skills to just manage land them all once I have good hookset. (I haven't one break off so far with this trout set up)
Mark uses light set ups, His equiptment can handle it
You were using a trout setup for stripers, really?
